Trouble in the Archives

How does a historian consider the information about 'information'? What stories do files and jottings in archives reveal and conceal ? How do names, terms, definitions and classificatory schema transfrom themselves from data to fragments of lived experience. Shahid Amin an eminent historian, known internationally for his contributions to the 'Subaltern Studies' mode of history writing, discusses his personal and professional preoccupations with information. Shahid Amin is the Author of 'Chauri Chaura : Event, Memory and Metaphor' and a contributor to the Subaltern Studies Series.
