  Marlene Stikker (NL)
Director Society for Old and New Media


Stikker has a background in philosophy and theatre. She is co-founder and director of the Society for Old and New Media (Amsterdam) and founder/publisher of the theatre and art magazine 'Alligator'. As director of the Summerfestival Amsterdam she initiated several mediaprojects (e.g. The Wetware Convention and Live Magazine). In 1993 she co-founded De Digitale Stad (DDS), the first digital city on the Internet and until 1996 was the 'digital mayor'. Stikker, in 1998, co-founded Net4.nl, a net-based public broadcast organization and was involved in the setting up of the European Cultural Backbone, a network of innovative cultural centers in Europe.

Until 1999 Stikker was chairman of the board of the Digital City and boardmember of TIES (Transatlantic Information Exchange Service). Currently, she is a board member of the Virtual Platform (advisory board on Arts, Education and New Media Policy to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science), Kunsten '92, the Foundation for Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Productions and Location One (New York). Moreover Stikker is a member of the ATR (Amsterdam Telematic Council). She was advisor of the working-group Culture, Communication and New Technologies of the Council of Europe, the Charter for Art and Industry and BVE-Net, as well as consultant for Professional and Adult Education Network, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
