CAMCOPTERŽ Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System

The CAMCOPTER® is a fully autonomous Aerial Vehicle System developed for a wide variety of civil and military applications. The system consists of the Aerial Vehicle and the Control Station with associated antennas and support equipment including an optional support vehicle. The Aerial Vehicle can be flown in automatic and manual modes and is operated from the Control Station, which provides Waypoint Mission Planning based on a Geographical Information System (GIS), Flight Control and Payload Control. The Aerial Vehicle has a CCD camera (Charged Coupled Device, which is working with an image sensor) and a DGPS positioning system aboard. The Aerial Vehicle can be pre-programmed to fly along preselected routes or can be operated manually. In both modes, the Aerial Vehicle is autonomously stabilized and can hover on station for extended periods. The system is designed to minimize the need for operator training. It has integrated fail-safe mechanisms which reduce risk of inadvertent damage.

The CAMCOPTER® UAV system has been developed in the 90ies for landmine detecting: the main customer of the Camcopter® UAV remained the U.S. Army Humanitarian Demining Program. But the system is also suited for a broad range of civilian and police applications such as disaster response, day/night traffic surveillance, environmental monitoring and border patrol. During miltiary missions it can also be used as a weapon: blasting compositions and grenades can be dropped.
