Natural Selection

Search engines are designed to lead the user to homepages providing certain information or covering specific topics in the World Wide Web. "Natural Selection" is a search engine, too - but a very special one. Put together by Mongrel-members Graham Harwood and Mathew Fuller, "Natural Selection" takes on the use of new communication technology for the dissemination of various forms of eugenics, nationalism, and racism.

By hacking a popular search engine, Mongrel invented cultural strategies to undermine and play with the expectations of racialisation in a manner which usurps or destroys it: When any searches are made for racist material on "Natural Selection", the user gets dumped into a parallel network of anti- racist web sites made up by Mongrel in collaboration with a vast global network of partners.
