WORLD-INFORMATION CITY OPENED AT BANGALORE
**************************************************************

November 14th saw the official opening of World-Information City, a one-week series of events focusing on the concrete realities of 'World Information Cities'. The Indian IT metropolis Bangalore provides the physical and thematic setting of World-Information City, where artists, scholars and activists from Europe and South Asia will address themes of the politics of information and media, with a particular emphasis on issues of intellectual property and of urban transformations.

World-Information City is a cooperative project of the Institute of New Culture Technologies/t0 (Vienna), Sarai CSDS (Delhi), Waag Society (Amsterdam), ALF (Bangalore), Mahiti (Bangalore) and local partners. Responding to a vibrant media culture that has emerged in South Asia over the past years, World-Information City presents exhibitions, a conference and a workshop programme as well as a public campaign carried out in the streets of Bangalore.

Key presentations will be made by distinguished scholars including David Lyon, Historian, Queens University, and Indian writer Arundathi Roy. Historian Shahid Amin and Media Theoretician Felix Stalder are some of the other public intellectuals who will be participating in the conference. As one of the artistic highlights of the programme a new media art festival will feature international and Indian artists such as like Sheela Gowda, Christoph Schaffer, Makrolab, 0100101110101101.ORG, amongst others.

The workshops and exhibitions are held from 14th to 19th November 2005 and the conference, which will be streamed live on the internet, will be held on the 17th and 18th of November.
